Meindl Glockner is an extreme Alpine Trekking boot made to take punishment. An excellent choice for Outdoor Professionals, High Country Farmers and Alpine Hunters who regularly traverse challenging mountainous terrain.
Advice from Meindl
- The boot is an ideal choice when you are carrying medium to heavy alpine loads (20-40+kg) in steep and dangerous terrain.
- The fit of C category alpine boots is deliberately narrow compared to our trekking boots. This is to support and firmly grip the structure of the foot when sidling on very steep inclines. However;
- As far as alpine boots go, the fit of these is quite generous, especially in volume and around the toe box. We've found them suitable to fit most wide fit users without issues. Some users with narrower feet will require volume spacers to tighten up the boot fit.
- This boot is not quite as rigid as the Tyrol. The Glockner has some toe flex which allows more comfortable trekking across alpine terrain. Tyrol is rigid.
- Ankle support is substantial in these boots and some users (not all) will find them impossible for use on prolonged tail walks. A BC category boot is recommended for crossing medium and broken terrain and walks on tracks.
- Apply Meindl Sport Wax liberally to the heel flex zone, the exposed seams and toe flex zones to prevent leather drying and cracking in these high wear zones.
- Take care to read the Nubuk leather care instructions in this website and don’t dry them too fast by the fire in the hut 😉!
